On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, in the top position on Reddit, the video by Tanktronic denounced (with style) the absurd management of the breast cancer research association "Susan G.Komen for the cure".
According to its own 2014 fund allocation statement, this organization devoted only 15% of its revenue to research.
Here is the spending table explained in this video:
Fiscal year 2014 |
||
| REVENUE | 287 409 269 $ | |
| Programs | ||
| Medical screening services | 38 326 366 $ | 13% |
| Treatment services | 13 515 826 $ | 5% |
| Public health education | 122 540 737 $ | 43% |
| Research | 43 396 973 $ | 15% |
| Breakdown of research funds | ||
| Awards and grants | 32 911 550 $ | 11% |
| Salaries, equipment, expenses, etc. | 10 485 432 | 8% |
| Other costs | ||
| Fundraising expenses | 36 988 727 $ | 13% |
| * General and administrative | 23 258 997 | 8% |
| Total expenses | 278 027 626 $ | |
| Increase in assets | 9 381 643 $ | |
It is worth noting that 122 million is spent to educate the public, which I think is already fairly well informed.
He then explains that if he received 1 million dollars, spent it on luxury cars, travel and other excesses, and then gave only what was left to cancer research, he would still have given more money than someone who donated the million directly to this supposedly non-profit association.
Clearly, it seems this association pockets a large part, spends another large part on marketing to raise more funds, and finally spends the little that remains on research.
Unfortunately, this is not the first association of its kind. In addition to wasting diverted money, this kind of association breaks public trust in other associations, and things do not move forward as fast as they should.
This is the sad reality of a society focused on individual profit.
