Having a Holter monitor fitted

Having a Holter monitor fitted

Publié le 04 Mai 2026

To sum up, a Holter is a device used to continuously record the electrocardiogram for about 24 hours, thereby making it possible to detect various potential problems.

I have just come back from it. I had looked it up on the web, probably as you are doing right now.
In summary, I had noted that the doctor was going to carry out the following steps:

- Shave hair in key areas
- Apply an alcohol-based product to those points
- Place the electrodes with sticky pads
- Secure everything with strips of tape or fasteners that cover the sticky pad of each electrode without going over the electrode tip
- Attach the device near the chest with adhesive strips and gather the wires so that nothing gets in the way.

However, here is the reality.
When I arrived, I was charged 77 euros. After a few minutes of waiting, a nurse (very nice) took care of me (apparently the doctor had delegated this task). In 3 seconds flat she wiped the alcohol-based product over the 5 key points, and in 10 seconds she stuck on each electrode. She triggered an activation on the device at the end of the electrodes, put it on a strap around my neck, then asked me to come back tomorrow to collect the data.

So it was really rushed, with a very quick procedure, very far from what I had seen on the web. I asked her for two more minutes because one of the electrodes was already starting to come unstuck. She gave me a razor and left me a few seconds to shave the area myself, telling me she was not authorized to shave a patient.

In less than 4 minutes, the Holter monitor is fitted.
