Liftgate truck rental in Tyrosse

Publié le 30 Avril 2026

Here is a short summary of our experience with the Leclerc vehicle rental company in Saint-Vincent de Tyrosse.

Moving during a pandemic is not really easy. Knowing that my wife was 6 months pregnant and that we would have to move alone, we prepared several months in advance.
Since we are not exactly very muscular either, and we had big, very heavy pieces of furniture to move, including the fridge, etc., we had planned to rent a truck with a liftgate. We had also bought a hand truck, measured the elevator, and planned everything to make sure we could easily move everything into our new home.

The idea was simple: place the very heavy items on the hand truck, roll them effortlessly to the elevator, then go from the elevator onto the liftgate of a truck, raise the liftgate to the height of the truck bed, and then do the reverse to unload everything.

We had also noticed that liftgate trucks were quite rare in our region, so we decided several weeks in advance to organize the rental to make sure we would have our truck on moving day.

We therefore found on the Leclerc rental website a truck with a liftgate available on the big day, and we locked in the reservation.

Up to this point, everything was going as planned. The operation was going to cost us about a hundred euros, not counting the cost of the two-wheel hand truck.

The big day arrived, so we went to Saint-Vincent-de-Tyrosse to pick up our truck.

First, the counters are very poorly indicated. A large rental and service sign invites us to wait in front of a counter that does not seem to be the right one. After a few minutes in front of a woman who seems busy reading a document without even looking at us, another woman at another counter invites us to come to her if it is for a rental.
So we change counters.

Our first sentence to the receptionist was: “Hello, we are here to pick up the truck with the liftgate, we have a reservation”.
She takes our details, finds the reservation, fills out the paperwork, then invites us to check the various scratches already noted in her document so that we can make sure we will not be blamed for adding scratches that were already there. Then she gives us the keys, without telling us where the truck is parked.

No big deal, so we go to the parking lot and find the liftgate truck we had spotted when we arrived. We see that the scratches listed on the document are indeed on the truck, and we get ready to get in, when suddenly... the keys do not open the truck.

Surprised, we return to the counter and report that there seems to be a mistake, because the keys do not work. The woman sends a colleague to show us where the truck is, and that colleague leads us to another truck, without a liftgate...

I tell her that we rented a truck with a liftgate, and that on the document the scratches match the truck examined earlier, so the document is clearly talking about the truck with the liftgate... She replies that all the trucks have more or less the same scratches, and that it does not prove anything special.

I ask her to go back and check our reservation on her computer. When we return once again to the counter, she checks the reservation and confirms that the reservation refers to a simple truck without a liftgate.

I explain that there must be a mistake. I clearly remember selecting the liftgate truck on the website, since that was exactly the reason we chose Leclerc Tyrosse, and we had been very careful.

After a heavy silence, I say that since there seems to be a computer error, or whatever the source of the problem is, and since we cannot get a truck with a liftgate, we are going to cancel this reservation.
Not to mention the fact that we stated directly on arrival that we were coming for a truck with a liftgate...

The manager comes to check two or three things with her colleague, then tells us that cancellation is not possible. She refuses to cancel the reservation, saying that the contract has already been entered into the computer system and that she can do nothing... I tell her that we did not choose to pay for a truck without a liftgate and that we are not going to pay for a service we did not want because of a mess in their system.

She replies that it is too late.. A reservation can only be cancelled 48 hours in advance.

So not only do they make a mistake that ruins our entire organization, but they are also completely closed-minded. And I am not even talking about their friendliness, before and after the problem was discovered... Very clearly, the worst rental service we had ever experienced. Dishonest, unpleasant, and acting in very bad faith...

After several minutes of discussion, my wife completely devastated, we decide to leave with the truck and try to move what we can from our apartment.

In the end, I was able to fill the truck with some large items that were not too heavy. Since the truck bed was about 50 cm from the ground, we had to carry the objects by hand from the ground into the truck bed. We had time to take apart a couple of pieces of furniture and load them board by board into the truck.
And we left behind the stove, fridge, and other large pieces of furniture that were far too heavy.

At the end of that ruthless day, we returned the truck to Leclerc Auto in Tyrosse. The woman at the counter left us waiting for a good 15 minutes in front of her while she typed on the computer, without giving us a single glance... Then we returned the truck with a full tank of fuel, in the same condition as when we received it. We got the deposit back and left, very disappointed by the horrible service...

The next day, we put all the furniture that was too heavy and the appliances (fridge, stove) that we could not move on Le Bon Coin at a low price, then sold them the same day for about a hundred euros, making someone happy in the process.

In summary:

With Leclerc Tyrosse, which has too many requests for its only liftgate truck, if you unfortunately need one, I suggest you check the truck before signing anything. Otherwise, it is very likely they will quietly give you another truck and force you to take it. Not to mention the unpleasant and unprofessional staff...
