The French government violently reprimands climate change protesters
On June 28, 2019, on the Pont de Sully in Paris, a group of around 300 activists demonstrated peacefully against the government's inaction in the face of climate change.
These concerned citizens were responding to the call from Extinction Rebellion.
The brave protesters had to face the police as well as intense heat. The disproportionate behavior of the CRS made very little sense. Law enforcement officers therefore used tear gas directly on the faces of the civilians present, whether protesters or not...
In a less absurd society, we might hope for the presence of an official to explain the government's actions or inactions to the protesters, or, at worst, simply allow an unhappy group to express itself...
Sending the police directly to clear things out is almost proof of guilt in my opinion.
The population still has the right to express its opinions when its government no longer represents it; that is the least one can expect.
