2026 €100 fuel bonus: who can benefit and how to apply?
Since May 27, 2026, workers who travel long distances to reach their workplace can apply for a €100 fuel allowance. This scheme, introduced by the government, targets employees and self-employed workers described as “high-mileage drivers”. Yet several weeks after applications opened, many beneficiaries are still waiting for their payment. Here is everything you need to know so you do not miss out.
What is the €100 fuel bonus for high-mileage drivers?
This aid was designed to support working people who are forced to use their personal vehicle at a time when fuel prices remain high. It is a single flat payment of 100 euros, paid directly into the beneficiary’s bank account after their online application has been approved.
Renewed in 2026 after previous editions, the scheme targets people for whom transport costs weigh heavily on the monthly budget. The government estimates that several million French people are eligible for this aid.
Who can benefit?
Eligibility is based on several cumulative criteria, all of which must be met.
Be professionally active
It applies to private- and public-sector employees, civil servants and self-employed workers. Jobseekers, retirees and students are excluded from the scheme. The aid is strictly reserved for people who declared earned income for the year 2024.
Meet a distance or mileage condition
To be considered a “high-mileage driver”, you must meet one of the following two conditions:
- Live at least 15 km from your workplace (that is, a minimum 30 km round trip per day)
- Or travel more than 8,000 km per year for professional purposes — a condition that notably concerns sales representatives, tradespeople and mobile professions
In both cases, a sworn declaration is enough when applying. No mileage proof is required at the time of submission, but checks may still be carried out later.
Have income below the fixed ceiling
The 2024 reference tax income — the one shown on your tax notice received in 2025 — must not exceed €16,880 per family quotient share. In practical terms, a couple with two children has 4 shares, meaning a ceiling of €67,520 in total reference tax income for the household.
Use a combustion or non-plug-in hybrid vehicle
The aid is reserved for vehicles with combustion engines (petrol or diesel) or non-plug-in hybrids. Fully electric cars and plug-in hybrids are excluded because they consume little or no fossil fuel.
How do you apply?
The process is entirely online, via the official portal impots.gouv.fr. Here are the steps to follow:
- Test your eligibility using the online simulator available on impots.gouv.fr. It asks for your professional situation, your home-to-work distance and your household’s reference tax income.
- Log in to your personal account with your tax number and usual password.
- Fill in the application form by declaring the required information on your honour: distance or mileage, vehicle type, employment details.
- Validate your application. A confirmation email will be sent to you.
Applications have been open since May 27, 2026 and will remain accessible until July 27, 2026. After that date, no extension is planned.
When will you receive the bonus?
Once your file has been approved by the tax administration, payment is expected within about 10 working days, directly to the bank account listed in your tax account.
However, several weeks after applications opened, many beneficiaries reported that they had still received nothing. Bercy acknowledged a massive influx of files and said payments would be made gradually. If this is your situation, your application is properly registered: the bonus will arrive with an additional delay, but it is owed.
Practical tips to avoid unpleasant surprises
If you submitted your application and have not received anything, first check that your bank details are up to date in your impots.gouv.fr account. An IBAN error is one of the most common causes of delayed or failed payments.
- Check your 2025 tax notice to know your exact reference tax income before simulating your eligibility.
- Keep your supporting documents: employment contract, latest payslip, vehicle registration document for the vehicle used for your work journeys — in case of a later check.
- Do not miss July 27, 2026: this is the firm deadline for submitting your application.
- Only one benefit per tax household is allowed for employees sharing the same vehicle.
What you should remember
The €100 fuel bonus for high-mileage drivers is a concrete aid for the millions of French people who have no choice but to take their car to go to work. If you meet the criteria — professional activity, income below the threshold, sufficient distance, combustion vehicle — it would really be a shame to miss out on this amount.
Go now to impots.gouv.fr to test your eligibility and submit your application. The process takes less than ten minutes, and the official simulator guides you at every step. Reminder: deadline July 27, 2026.
