Michael Gu builds a system that mutes the TV during ads

Publié le 30 Avril 2026

Information

Video published by Michael Gu

In this video, YouTuber Michael Gu explains how he set up a system that automatically mutes his television when there is advertising.

Really clever: he explains that he relies on the simple fact that each channel displays its logo in a corner during programs, but removes that logo when ads are on.

So, using a small camera and a program able to check whether the logo is present in the small frame being filmed, the system can determine whether there is advertising or not. Then, with a small infrared transmitter, it can mute the sound and turn it back on at the right moment.

It is very smart, however I would not categorize this system under "Artificial Intelligence", because here the system merely executes a programmed command in a loop.

Could Tesla's solar roof tiles be the future?

This may be the future: Tesla is launching a range of solar roof tiles full of promise and, honestly, beautiful. These very resistant tiles have a very high solar charging capacity, they are guaranteed for 25 years, and so is the energy output. Resistance to impact, wind and fire. They feature...
